Alumni Relations – Director of Biographies

Responsibilities:

Manage a team of biographers and editors in the production of alumni biographies.


This duty includes, but is not limited to

  • Contacting alumni via phone or the internet.
  • Assisting biographers in obtaining their interviews.
  • Assisting biographers in the creation of organized and unique sets of questions, covering the bases of:
    • An alum’s unique path of personal and professional development (including Sigma Alpha Delta)
    • An alum’s greatest personal influences
    • An alum’s current professional activities
    • The elements which make an alum unique as an individual
  • Reviewing and approving interview questions written by biographers.
  • Providing editors with drafted biographies for editing.
  • Reviewing and approving the final drafts of biographies.
  • Writing biographies (and other articles when called upon).
  • Inviting alumni to select Sigma Alpha Delta events and gatherings.

Requirements:
The Director of Biographies must

  • Have interpersonal skills and/or wish to build those skills.
  • Have strong writing/editing skills.
  • Hold no reservations about contacting alumni on behalf of the Honor Society.
  • Be organized and objective.

Professional and Personal Development:

This position can help develop a Sigma Alpha Delta Member in the following ways

  • Decision making skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Networking skills

Alumni Relations- Editor

Responsibilities:
Editing biographical profiles (and articles when called upon) for publication.
This duty includes, but is not limited to

  • Crafting concise and well-organized pieces based upon the writing of other individuals.
  • Employing one’s own personal creativity in making a biography (or an article) unique and compelling for readers.
  • Ensuring that each biographical profile effectively conveys:
    • An alum’s unique path of personal and professional development including Sigma Alpha Delta)
    • An alum’s greatest personal influences
    • An alum’s current professional activities
    • The elements which make an alum unique as an individual

Requirements:
An Editor must

  • Possess strong writing skills.
  • Have a good sense of correct grammar, spelling, and language usage.
  • Be able to distinguish pertinent information from non-pertinent information in a given piece.
  • Be organized and objective.
  • Be able to effectively communicate
    to another individual, one’s critique of their writing.

Professional and Personal Development:
This position can help develop a Sigma Alpha Delta Member in the following ways:

The development of

  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Decision making skills
  • Critical thinking skills

The establishment of

  • Professional and personal relationships

Will develop the ability to

Alumni Relations – Biographer Writer

Responsibilities: Conduct interviews with alumni and
write biographical profiles for publication.
This duty includes, but is not
limited to:

  • Contacting alumni via phone
    or the internet.
  • Crafting an organized and
    unique set of questions that cover the bases of:
    • An alum’s unique path
      of personal and professional development (including Sigma Alpha Delta)
    • An alum’s greatest personal
      influences
    • An alum’s current professional
      activities
    • The elements which make
      an alum unique as an individual
  • Conducting the interview
    in-person, over the phone, or via the internet.
  • Writing biographies (and
    other articles when called upon).
  • Inviting alumni to select
    Sigma Alpha Delta events and gatherings.
Requirements
A Biographer/Writer must:

  • Have interpersonal skills
    and/or wish to build those skills.
  • Hold no reservations about
    contacting alumni on behalf of the Honor Society.

Alumni Relations – Director of Database

Responsibilities: Manage a team in the:

  • Maintenance of an up-to-date
    and functional database that can be easily searched and queried.
  • Procurement and verification
    of data to assure its accuracy and integrity.
  • Dispersal of news regarding
    current events within the Honor Society.
  • Dispersal of news regarding
    professional and social opportunities relevant to alumni.
This duty includes,
but is not limited to:

  • Obtaining and entering alumni
    information into the database.
  • Version control of the database.
  • Maintenance of the committee’s
    public online presence.
  • Conducting research on alumni.
  • Relaying information about
    professional and social opportunities to alumni.
  • Delegating tasks to members
    of the Database Team in order to accomplish the above goals.
Requirements
  • Basic to intermediate understanding
    of Microsoft Office Excel.
  • Detail orientation and organization
    skills.
  • Must be up prepared to upkeep
    frequent contact with individuals inside and outside of the committee,
    in-person and otherwise.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain an up-to-date and
    functional database that can be easily searched and queried.
  • Obtain, verify, and, manage
    data to assure its accuracy and integrity.
  • Keep alumni up-to-date on
    current events within Sigma Alpha Delta.
  • Keep alumni abreast of professional
    and social opportunities relevant to them.
This duty includes,
but is not limited to:

  • Obtaining and entering alumni
    information into the database.
  • Version control of the database.
  • Maintenance of the committee’s
    public online presence.
  • Conducting research on alumni.
  • Relaying information about
    professional and social opportunities to alumni.
